The Process

This project transformed overlooked areas of the church into inviting, people-focused spaces designed to foster connection and belonging, all while respecting the building’s existing character. By working within the original carpet and brick feature walls, the design feels familiar yet renewedβ€”layered with warmth, intention, and purpose.

An underused coat area and storage zones became a cafΓ© and gathering space, enclosed with glass walls that balance acoustic separation with visual openness to the lobby beyond. Curved sectional seating and thoughtfully placed benches encourage conversation, casual meetings, and moments of pause. A new welcome desk, grounded by a dimensional wood feature wall and curated artwork, creates a warm first impression and a clear sense of arrival.

Elsewhere, a once-cold corridor of closets was reimagined as a series of cozy seating niches, complete with arched enclosures, upholstered booths, and soft sconce lightingβ€”offering quiet spaces for conversation and reflection. Updated wall kiosks and a colorful check-in counter in the kids area further support community flow, making the space intuitive, welcoming, and easy to navigate.
